It seems chips were not the only thing scarce in Lakes Entrance over the Christmas holidays – prawns have been up and down in their supply as well.
The boats have reported that it was a very slow start to the season with the unstable weather not helping.
When the Lakes Post visited the boats on Friday, only one was still open at 9am but had already run out of cooked prawns.
They had some live prawns left, but that was it.
Effie Kavadas has been selling seafood for 40 years and reported that it had been a terrible start to the prawn season.
