Lakes Entrance police have warned holidaymakers and local residents to lock their valuables away and keep them out of view in cars and campsites over the holiday period.
Police say the holiday season always sees an increase in thefts from both and as most thieves are opportunistic, Lakes Entrance Station Commander, Matt Jenkins, suggests the best way to avoid falling victim to theft is not to give the thief an opportunity to steal from you in the first instance.
“Most of our thefts from motor vehicles occur due to owners not locking their cars, while thefts in campsites are generally eskies, bicycles and fishing gear,” Snr Sgt Jenkins said.
Police intend being “highly visible” over the Christmas holiday period.
