The new Chief Officer of the CFA, Jason Heffernan, made a visit to the Lakes Entrance CFA last Wednesday.
Mr Heffernan was appointed to the position in November and has been progressively visiting country brigades.
He was invited by the Lakes Entrance brigade to familiarise himself with the local area, inspect the infrastructure and meet members of the brigade. From the local CFA’s point of view it was important to note the risk factors of Lakes Entrance and surrounding areas.
Members were impressed by Mr Heffernan’s down to earth attitude and that he started his journey with the CFA at local club level.
From Mr Heffernan’s point of view, the visit enabled him to listen to members, to discover what matters most and share an appreciation of the CFA, to better their lives.
“The CFA remains a great community base for fire and emergency services,” Mr Heffernan said.
He was taken on a tour to demonstrate the challenges the brigade faces and the varied roles, in particular, that Lakes Entrance
CFA is confronted with. “It is not just house fires, but boat fires, bushfires and road crash services,” he said.
“I am sure the members would be happy if there were no car accidents to be called out to, but sadly this is not the case.”
Mr Heffernan enjoyed the barbecue dinner where he could meet and have an informal chat with members of the brigade.
