Three local primary schools will share part of the State Government’s $2 million Minor Capital Works Fund to fast track priority projects.
Lakes Entrance Primary School will receive $171,165, Nungurner Primary School receive $53,120 and Metung Primary School $125,605.
Lakes Entrance Primary School applied for the grant in hopes of receiving enough money to replace the old weathered playground. It was hoping to create an engaging new play space that is not only able to provide a fun and safe space, but to extend the area to allow for the addition of some much-needed sensory equipment to meet the requirements of all students and their individual needs.
“The school was thrilled to receive word that we have been successful in our application, this is incredible news for our school, the students and the wider community,” business manager, Michelle Chatfield said.
“This grant will not only benefit the students by giving them an exciting and inclusive new play space, but the wider community by allowing us to engage a number of local businesses to complete all of the required works throughout the next six months.”
The school is now busy planning the next step towards making this vision a reality, and looks forward to starting the works during the summer holidays.
“We are so excited and grateful that we have been given the opportunity to create something that will be able to provide happiness to so many children for many years to come,” Michelle said.
Principal of Nungurner Primary
School, Emma Steele, said she is absolutely thrilled to get the grant.
“At the moment we use two old toilet blocks as our storage sheds, so you can imagine we are tickled pink that we can now build a proper shed,” Emma said.
“This grant will allow us to build the shed which will store our sporting equipment and art supplies, plus a carport for our bus.”
Metung Primary plans to use the funding on the refurbishment of its garden and playground.
“The garden at the front of the school definitely needs some TLC and this funding will mean we can fix it up,” acting principal, Clare Edwards, said.
“We have been lucky to receive another grant under the School Pride banner which will allow us to refurbish the original school building and create a Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEM) space.
“It will also mean we can create a four station cooking space for our students, which will even include a dining room.
“We are extremely grateful to be the recipients of these grants.”
