The Today Show certainly made an impact last week.
The Nine Network’s breakfast show travelled to Lakes Entrance to show its support for bushfire-affected communities, rolling into town on Thursday afternoon, dining at local eateries, pubs and cafes, before hosting a hugely popular show which attracted hundreds of locals and visitors from 5am right through to the completion of the Today Extra show at 11am. The show is telecast to a national audience. Local firefighters were the centre of attention, businesses were given plugs and co-hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon wore Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club scarves and beanies throughput the show. ARIA award-winning singer, Delta Goodrem, was a special guest, performing her new single, Let it Rain, which was inspired by the devastation caused by the bushfires. The afternoon prior she visited
Nicholson Primary School, singing with students, playing on the monkey bars and speaking with staff and parents.
“We all want to feel close, united, connected,” she said on the broadcast.
“There is a lot for us to do together. Spending time and connecting is part of that. We are in this together.”
Sports reporter, Alex Cullen, and news reader, Tracy Vo, were on hand, while weatherman, Tom Davies, was stationed in Mallacoota, where The Block contestants had been lending a hand building a new barbecue shelter at Betka Beach and chicken coop at the P-12 college.
Travel Guide hosts, Kevin Moloney and Janetta Stones, showcased local wineries, eateries, segways on the beach and sailing in Metung during their short feature.
