Old Slipway development

by Lakes Post
8 October 2019
in Local News

A fantastic opportunity to reactivate the Old Slipway along the Lakes Entrance Foreshore is being offered to interested parties to develop opportunities to complement the town’s existing businesses and attractions for residents and visitors.

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) acting regional manager land and built environment programs Gippsland, Mick Dortmans, said: “We are looking to identify appropriate short-term use and development opportunities for the Old Slipway site that will complement local community and visitor activities in Lakes Entrance”.

“The location of the site represents an opportunity to develop an under utilised space that has the potential to value-add activities in Lakes Entrance, the adjoining waterway, open space and the Gippsland Lakes Region,” Mr Dortmans said.

“We are seeking expressions of interest from interested parties that will reinvigorate the site temporarily or seasonally or that may trial an approach that may expand over time. This also includes occupying all or only part of the site.”

The 5400 square metre space operated as a slipway from 1948 through to 2005 when it was decommissioned and is currently managed by Gippsland Ports as a committee of management on behalf of DELWP.

The site includes public pathways, a public toilet, the old slipway concrete apron (above and below the water), fencing, off street car parking, several picnic tables, several small trees, lighting poles, the old timber winch sheds and seawalls.

The expressions of interest (EOI) process is being carried out collaboratively between DELWP, Gippsland Ports and East Gippsland Shire Council who are key stakeholders for this site and the foreshore.

A maximum lease term of five years will be offered to the successfulproponents.

Further details about this EOI can be obtained by contacting DELWP. Submissions close at 4.30pm on Friday, October 11.
