The night sky was filled with light on Saturday as hundreds of locals marched across the iconic footbridge during Lakes Entrance Events’ Light Up The Lake Lantern Parade.
The parade was led by the local CFA brigade, which flashed their lights, and crossed the iconic footbridge before returning.
There was also a Food Truck Festival and Twilight Market from 2pm to 7pm on the foreshore near the rotunda.
Organisers were thrilled with the inaugural event and plan to make next year’s event even better.
“It was a great event. We got a bit lucky with the weather and there was a huge turnout,” Lakes Entrance Events president, Alison Brewer, said.
“The first time you try something you figure out how to do things better, but it was a great first event. The CFA came along and volunteered their time. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback about it.
“There were plenty of school children with lanterns that they made during art classes. It was great that the local schools got involved.
“There would have been 400 to 500 people there including parents, kids and many local residents.
“We had a light display and a smoke machine, which just added to the spectacular show.
“It worked very well and everyone there seemed to enjoy it.
“We had food and market stalls and they were very well patronised. There was also live entertainment so there was plenty on.
“We will definitely do it again. It is always hard to gauge interest for events, but because of the response we are planning to make it bigger and better next year.”
Alison thanked everyone for their support and the CFA for lending a hand.
