The Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge will be held this Saturday when a variety of crafts power their way across the Gippsland Lakes.

The challenge has grown from 30 entries in its inaugural year (2011), to become Victoria’s premier multi-craft paddling event with more than 150 paddlers competing in each of the past three events.

Crafts eligible to participate include surf skis, outrigger canoes, canoes, ocean racing skis, sit-on-top kayaks, Hobie kayaks, sea kayaks, stand up paddle boards, prone paddle boards, surf boats, St Ayles skiff and coastal rowing boats.

The challenge has two courses to suit both the elite and recreational paddler.

The 27-kilometre challenge begins in Paynesville, while the 13km challenge sets off from Metung.

Paddlers in each event mix at Metung before finishing at the iconic Lakes Entrance Footbridge.
