Lakes Entrance Men’s Shed is among nine community organisations in East Gippsland to share more than $32,000 from the Federal Government.
The nine organisations are among 42 groups across Gippsland to receive much-needed funding under the $20 million Volunteer Grants program.
Federal Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester, said the organisations would receive between $1000 and $5000 each to support their volunteers.
“A total of more than $145,000 has been allocated to community-run organisations in Gippsland,” Mr Chester said.
Of that money, more than $32,000 will be shared by groups in East Gippsland.
“Lakes Entrance Men’s Shed makes a valuable contribution to the community and will receive $2577 to buy new equipment and tools.
“This shed, like others across Gippsland, offers support to local men and friendly, easy-going company. The benefits of these sheds to men’s health are widely acknowledged.
“Volunteers devote a lot of time raising money to buy much-needed equipment and undertake a variety of activities. Through the Volunteer Grants program, we can give them a helping hand and make their roles as volunteers easier and more enjoyable.”
U3A Lakes Entrance received $1200 for a digital projector and screen.
“That projector and screen will be available for any classes to use,” U3A Lakes Entrance presidents, Barbara Decker, said.
“I know the bloke who does the cryptic crosswords had asked about one before. It will really add another element to our classes.”
Lakes Entrance Regional Historical Society also received funding ($4250) for a split heating/cooling system.
