Insight welcome at town meeting

by Lakes Post

in Local News

Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) has called a town meeting for May 2 at 7pm at the Mechanics Hall to allow community members to have their say on what their priorities are for future improvements to Lakes Entrance.

“It is time that we hear the views from the community and hear from authorities what actions they have planned for Lakes Entrance,” LEADA president, Bruce Hurley, said.

“The last town meeting held four years ago was successful and put improvements to Lakes Entrance back on the agenda. It is time now for action.
“LEADA will adjust its priorities based on the feedback from the town meeting.”

Short presentations of existing plans and actions for Lakes Entrance will be made by East Gippsland Shire Council (EGSC) chief executive officer, Anthony Basford, Federal Member for Gippsland and Lakes Entrance resident, Darren Chester, and senior representatives from Vic Roads, Gippsland Ports and the Department of Energy Land Water and Planning.

Together with the president of LEADA they will form a panel to answer questions and to listen to comments from community members.

“We need people to come along and have their say. LEADA set out on a new direction in mid February to build its membership and to advocate strongly to government authorities for much needed improvements to Lakes Entrance,” Bruce said.

“These have been constructive and complete a number of infrastructure projects during the next two years.

“The projects include Jemmys Point viewing platform, upgrading of indoor recreational facilities, improvements to the CBD and foreshore such as finishing the dual bike and walking pathway, additional landscaping and lighting along the foreshore, new CBD footpaths and improved carparking.

“LEADA expects and is advocating that during these two years decisions will be made with timelines and funding commitments for improvements to Bullock Island, the Slipway, walks around Lakes Entrance as well as the town square that EGSC strongly promoted and promised funding for a couple of years ago.

“LEADA will also push for a productive use of 55 Palmers Road.”
