Three-on-three (CLB3X3) basketball is coming back to Lakes Entrance with three days of half court action right on the Esplanade from March 1-3.
The event will mix basketball action, including the ever-popular three-point shootout, with food trucks, music, pop up shops and more.
CLB3X3 general manager, Matt Hollard, says he is looking forward to seeing the local community come together.
“I’m really looking forward to watching the children enjoy themselves,” he said.
“I’m also looking forward to CLB giving an opportunity to the Lakes Entrance community to get behind the event, which is now an Olympic sport, so we can continue to come back year on year.”
Matt says the family atmosphere is something that really stood out to him in last year’s competition and he hopes to see this again.
“The families coming out together and enjoying the outdoors it is good to see,” he said. “People engaging together while watching a fun and very active fast-paced game is really enjoyable.” CLB3X3 doesn’t just contain local teams; players come from all over Gippsland. “Some teams will travel from Melbourne with teams from places such as Merimbula, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and Warragul all invited to come and play. “The competition is a three-on-three basketball match, which is played on a half court with one hoop.
“They are 10-minute games or first to 21 points.
“All categories over the weekend are free to spectate and there will be food trucks on site. The market will also be on Sunday morning.”
This fast-paced, highly entertaining sport will be sure to please all spectators.
All players will receive FIBA ranking points and spectators can watch free, so grab your mates, your family, a picnic rug, a chair and enjoy watching a sport that is taking Australia by storm.
On the Friday there will be school clinics held from 9am to 3pm, followed by a mixed social competition from 5pm to 9pm.
Saturday will see the age groups fight it out with under 13s, under 15s and under 18s taking to the court, while on Sunday the open and elite teams will face off.
