More than 180 eager players are expected to take to the sand when Beach Netball returns to Lakes Entrance across the weekend of January 19-20.
Through a partnership between Netball Victoria and Lakes Entrance Netball Association, the competition will be held at Lakes Entrance Main Beach for the fourth consecutive year, ensuring sustainability of the competition in the East Gippsland region.
2019 will see the inclusion of a 17 and under mixed junior competition, while the mixed and women’s open divisions remain.
East Gippsland Shire Council is once again supporting the competition as a major partner of the event.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said council was again thrilled to be hosting the social and fun competition.
“We are thrilled to announce we are once again partnering with Netball Victoria and Lakes Entrance Netball Association to host Beach Netball in 2019,” Cr O’Connell said.
“The competition works perfectly to bring people to East Gippsland to enjoy the beauty of the coastline while competing in a fun and social event.
“We have seen lots of excitement around the event in the past and really strong participation – we are hoping to see even more people get involved in 2019.”
Netball Victoria’ s chief executive officer, Rosie King, says the event demonstrates the cohesion between Netball Victoria and its affiliates, ensuring netball is available to everyone in Victoria.
“We are delighted to be working with the local netball community in Lakes Entrance to ensure we are delivering all forms of netball to every corner of Victoria, as well as empowering our affiliates to coordinate and embrace these bigger competitions,” Ms King said.
“While Netball Victoria will assist Lakes Entrance Netball Association in the delivery of the competition, we thank the volunteers in the netball community who will be giving up their time, working on the ground, to ensure a great event.
“Our volunteers are an integral part of the sport, and without them, we just simply can’t continue to grow.”
