Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club members visited the Woodside Beach Surf Life Saving Club for inflatable rescue boat training over the weekend of September 22 and 23.
Club members participated in a range of rescue scenarios and training sessions for the upcoming season. They were joined on the water by the State Emergency Service, Gippsland Water Police, Westpac Lifesaver Helicopters and Black Rock Life Saving Club.
Westpac Lifesaver Helicopters performed rescues using its static rescue line, while Gippsland Water Police used its state-of-the-art $2.2 million jet-powered police boat work in combination with the surf club’s inflatable rescue boats to perform crew handovers.
Gippsland Water Police provided supervision and demonstration for the day and night emergency flare sessions.
Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club will hold a bronze camp from December 9 to 15.
The camp provides an excellent opportunity for participants to learn new skills in an activity that not only offers personal and physical development, but also serves the community. The camp is for 13 to 14 year olds aiming for their Surf Rescue Certificate and those aged 15 and above who are hoping to complete their Bronze Medallion. No surf experience is required. The club also runs a nippers program.
