Maffra Basketball Association coach James Whelan is currently in the United States coaching on a college recruiting tour with AUSA Hoops.
AUSA provides tours for Australian players seeking college scholarships and playing opportunities in the US, something Maffra’s Jaime Gallatly was able to achieve through the program in 2024.
Travelling through Kansas and Oklahoma, Whelan and the tour group are visiting 10 different colleges, including Division One powerhouse Kansas University, while also gaining insight into Division Two, NAIA and JUCO programs.
The tour is also providing Whelan with the opportunity to connect with and learn from college coaches from across America.
Two tournaments on the Puma NxtPro circuit will conclude the tour, with players continuing to showcase their talents in front of college recruiters during this weekend’s games in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
