Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club member Jason Johansson has etched his name into Australian surf sports history, becoming the first lifesaver to win a combination of gold, silver and bronze medals across both Open and Masters divisions in every state of Australia.
The remarkable achievement has taken more than 30 years to complete, involving thousands of kilometres of travel and hundreds of hours of competition across the country’s surf lifesaving circuit.
Johansson’s long-term goal dates back to the 1980s at Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club, where he and fellow lifesavers first discussed the possibility of competing — and medalling — at the highest level in every state.
That ambition has now been realised, with Johansson completing the full national set and securing his place in surf lifesaving history.
The achievement spans both Open and Masters competition categories and includes medals at state-level events across Australia, highlighting his sustained commitment to the sport over multiple decades.
