Last Saturday’s Lakes Entrance parkrun saw a record turnout and blistering times, with the Easter weekend bringing large crowds to town. The field swelled to 183 participants, marking the third-largest turnout in the event’s history.
The run was led home by Liam Hilderbrand, who completed the five-kilometre esplanade course in a sensational 16 minutes 48 seconds on his first attempt. His time puts him in the same league as course record holders Eric Ueda and Xavier Chapman (16.06).
Former three-time winner Adam Evans, who had led previous editions, finished sixth in 18.15, recording a personal best.
The first female finisher was Leah Tomek in 20.08, also completing her debut run on the course.
Overall, the event welcomed 77 first-time participants and 21 runners achieved personal bests, including Kyle Standfield, Lauchlan Thompson, Jack Gill, Kristina Morgan, Matthew Evans, Thomas Graham, Anthony McDonald, Lisa McGregor, Eduardo Rath Rohr, Brad Sanderson, Marisah Mock, Rebecca McDonald, Ariya Mock, Zach McKean, Mikayla McDonald, Samuel Falkner, Age Falkner, Hope Sneddon, Cameron Van Den Broek, and Skye McDonald.
Runners represented sixteen clubs, including Lakes and District Runners, Southern Peninsula Sporting Club, Everlasting Fitness Runners, Sale and District Runners, Running Divas Australia, Gippsland Road Runners, Gippsland Track Club, Brisbane Frontrunners, Correbirras, Running Mums Australia, and BAC Fitness 4 Blokes.
The Lakes Entrance parkrun departs from the Rotunda at 8am every Saturday, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities. The event is perfect for improving fitness, meeting like-minded people, or simply enjoying a fun Saturday morning outdoors.
