Lakes Entrance went down to Paynesville in their Bairnsdale Cricket Association round 12 clash last Saturday at AJ Freeman Reserve, but it was a memorable day
for Jack Reggardo.
Batting first, the home side posted a formidable 9/262 from its 40 overs, with Seagulls skipper Jacob Daly giving all 11 team members a bowl in a bid to explore every option. At 4/250, Paynesville looked set to push past 280, but the Gulls underestimated the wily Reggardo, playing his first match
of the season.
Initially employed as the 10th bowler, Reggardo produced a stunning two-over spell, taking 5/2, including a hat-trick — and a near-miss on a potential double hat-trick.
Paynesville’s innings was anchored by Albie Clarke (62), Rhy McNaughton (30), Lochlan Wells (69), David Clack (45) and Judah May (36). Michael Poynton also chipped in with 2/38 for Lakes.
In reply, the Seagulls were always behind the required run rate. They steadied briefly at 3/98, but a late-order collapse saw them bowled out in the 40th over for 151. Reggardo top-scored with 49, supported by vice captain Brett Boyd (22) and James Daly (26), while the experienced Jake Keown was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with 3/24.
The Seagulls will enjoy a weekend off for the Australia Day long weekend, returning to action on January 31 against Lucknow at Hudson-Alvin Oval.
The club’s under 13 sides are set to resume play on Friday, January 30.
