The joys of the festive season were clearly evident throughout December as members of the Inner Wheel Club of Bairnsdale brought a very busy year to a close with a range of social activities in Lakes Entrance.
Twenty-two members gathered in sunny conditions to take part in the final walk for the year. Led by Louise Anketell, participants explored the shared pathway to the east before crossing the footbridge to view the magnificent sculptures adjacent to the sand dunes. These artworks form part of the Krauatungalung Walk, established by GLaWAC in conjunction with East Gippsland Shire, and depict Indigenous art and stories. The walk proved to be an
enjoyable and meaningful experience for all involved.
Lunch followed at the Central Hotel, where members were treated to a surprise visit from a well-known festive figure in red. Adding to the occasion, each walker received a photograph taken during one of the many walks held throughout the year. It was a fitting and special end to the walking program, with the group set to reconvene at Eastwood for their next walk in February 2026.
Later in the month, club members, partners and friends gathered for an evening general meeting and Christmas get-together, also held in Lakes Entrance. Embracing the festive spirit, local members had beautifully decorated the venue, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Following dinner, a quiz tested participants’ knowledge of Christmas carols, providing plenty of laughter and entertainment.
A highlight of the evening was the club’s contribution to the Maternity Ward at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, with members donating items for newborn babies. The gathering marked the conclusion of a busy year for Inner Wheel members, who will enjoy a short break before resuming activities in mid-January. Celebrations will then continue with International Inner Wheel Day in 2026, featuring a Spanish theme.
Planning is already well underway for the year ahead, with a fundraising event scheduled for February in support of Cord Blood Research. A popular “Beetle Day” is being organised, following the success of a similar lunch and game held earlier this year. Organisers are looking forward to strong community participation, with further details to be announced shortly.
The past year has been a particularly active one for the Inner Wheel Club of Bairnsdale, with several new members welcomed during 2025. Anyone interested in learning more about Inner Wheel is encouraged to contact the club’s secretary via its Facebook page.
