Another busy week of golf at Lakes Entrance saw members and guests showing no signs of slowing down, even as the year draws to a close.
Wednesday was the ladies’ Christmas break-up day, a 4BBB stableford event that attracted 31 players. The winners were Marie Te Wierik and Jenny Kesper with an impressive 48 points, followed by Jenny Dowie and Di Gray on 46.
Thursday was medley stableford day, with 77 players teeing off. The overall winner was “B” grade player Paul Mifsud with 38 points on countback from “A” grade player Jim Stewart, while Spud Le Maitre and Garry Watson were unlucky on the same score. Mark Evan took “C” grade with 37 points.
Mifsud told golfers after his round that he had eaten at the Smokehouse in Rosedale the night before and joked he might have to make the trip every week. Hot on the leader’s heels was recent Master Medallist Rick Murray, who posted another solid round of 37 points.
Saturday saw the annual Christmas break-up ambrose, which was won by Zac Stevens, Angus McKenzie, Blake Stevens and Daniel Bryant with a score of 49.75. Runners-up were Brett Stokes, Kat Sharpley, and Dave and Charlie Smythe (52.5), followed by Ian, Neil, Allen and Nola McKenna (52.875).
