Rain played havoc with Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant, but remarkably some matches were played despite downpours causing flooding to greens
and surrounds.
In the premier division, Metung and Lakes Entrance shared the points after play wasn’t possible at the Metung Bowling Club, Lakes Entrance maintaining its place second on
the ladder.
The only match to be played in division
one was the all-Lakes Entrance affair, with ladder leader Lakes Entrance 2 emerging with the points over third-placed Lakes Entrance 3, 64-51.
Winners for Lakes Entrance 2 were
Wayne Detering, Kevin Watson, Jack Light, Wallace Mason (21-18) and Michael Bratt, Jeffrey Wilson, Johannes Kool and Barry Roberts (25-11).
The other rink went the way of Lakes Entrance 3, Lynton Rathjen, Timothy Anketell, Mark Elliot and Samuel Berlingeri
22-18 victors.
In division two, ladder leader Lakes Entrance 4 outclassed Howitt Park, 59-20.
The competition’s leading combination, Joseph Hales, Roy Roberts, Bill Gilbert and Charlie Abela, were in superb form, victorious 37-11, as were Ryan Dobson, Christine Piatek, Bob Lucas and Tony Spink (22-9).
Lakes Entrance 5 went down by two
shots to Paynesville, 40-38, both teams going down 19-20.
The loss sees Lakes 5 drop another place on the table to fifth.
In division three, Lakes Entrance scored its second win of the campaign, exciting 43-27 winners over Bairnsdale 6, with Max Towan, Wim Pennings, Colin Grassby and Faye Cannizzaro setting up the victory, 29-21.
Lakes currently sits sixth on the ladder.
