The Metung Fun Run continues to go from strength to strength, with this year’s event — held on Sunday, November 9 — drawing a record field of more than 400 participants.
Powered by The HIIT Factory Bairnsdale, the annual fun run is a major fundraiser for Metung Primary School and was proudly named Community Event of the Year at the 2024 East Gippsland Shire Council Australia Day Awards.
Supported by the Lions Club of Metung, the event has become a highlight on the region’s fitness and community calendar, attracting runners, walkers, families, and visitors from across East Gippsland. Key sponsors this year included Metung Hot Springs and Metung Country Club.
Participants took to the scenic course along Metung’s picturesque foreshore under clear skies, creating an energetic and festive atmosphere.
The fastest 10-kilometre times were recorded by Leigh Peterson (37.03) and Penny Townshend (37.24), while Hayden Peckett led the under 13 field in 68.57. In the five-kilometre race, Riley Nicholas (18.03) and Katie Crombie (19.34) claimed top honours, with Simon Lynch (19.33) and Zoe Naim (24.11) the quickest among the younger runners.
Organisers said they were thrilled with the turnout and community support, which continues to grow each year. For a strictly limited time, entries are open for next year’s event at 2025 prices. To secure an early spot, visit the Metung Fun Run website.
