Two Gippsland Grammar students have been recognised among the country’s top young riders after representing Victoria at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships in Sydney over the school holidays.
St Anne’s year four student Lachy Black from Cobains and Garnsey year 10 student Charlee Latham from Bairnsdale competed against the best school-aged riders from across Australia at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre from September 25–28, achieving outstanding results.
Lachy placed in every class he competed in, including fourth in the one-rounder, sixth in the two-phase and fourth in the two-round competition.
This saw Lachy finish third in Australia in the individual 80cm Primary Champion and he was also part of the Reserve Champion primary jumping team.
Charlee finished fifth in Australia in the ‘Senior Show Horse’ event, after winning the led class, finishing third in the rider class and 11th in the ridden class.
Gippsland Grammar deputy principal Bo Power said the school was immensely proud of both students’ achievements.
“It’s wonderful to see our students pursuing their passions at such a high level,” Mr Power said.
“Lachy and Charlee’s dedication, sportsmanship and hard work are fantastic examples of our School values in action.”
Fellow Gippsland Grammar Equestrian team students Emily Wagstaff (year 10) and Ella McConachy also qualified for the Nationals event, however were unable to attend this year.
