Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant defending champion, Lakes Entrance, won a thrilling match at the Stratford Bowling Club during round one.
Lakes got the better of the home side late to win 58-56, led by Wallace Mason, Alan Light, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown, who were victorious 20-14.
Eric Spence, Kevin Watson, Glenn Barker and Joanne Martin were also successful 23-21.
There were great wins for Lakes Entrance teams in division two, highlighted by the success of Lakes Entrance 2 over Bairnsdale Golf, 78-51, at home.
Michael Bratt, Tim Anketell, Peter Spark, Peter Alves-Veira (31-13) and Charlie Abela, Jacinta Wilson, Peter Howie and Samuel Berlingeri (32-12) had
huge wins.
Lakes Entrance 3 had the answers at home when challenged by Bairnsdale 2, holding on for a 59-49 victory.
Dawn Irwin, Joseph Hales, Charles Lesiw and Greg Bertram were dominant victors 21-10, with Angelo Alonso, Robert Wilson, William Gilbert and Clement Hochkins getting the points, 21-19.
In division three, Paynesville defeated Lakes Entrance 5 in a thriller 40-39 at home.
Jeanette Smith, Lesley Clare, Dianne Scott and Faye Cannizzaro were victors 25-16.
It was a better result for Lakes
Entrance 4, outpointing Bairnsdale 4, 46-29, the stars Max Towan, Margaret Short, Frank Detering and Rhonda O’Neill with a huge 26-10 win, supported by Ian Gray, Suzanne Light, Stephen Adams and Ross Irvine, who zigged late to win 20-19.
