The global cord blood stem cell market is experiencing significant growth, projected to reach $80 billion by 2030, driven by increased awareness, technological advancements and the rising incidence of diseases treated with cord blood therapies.
The rising incidence of cancer and blood-related diseases such as leukaemia, lymphoma and genetic disorders is
boosting demand.
Inner Wheel Australia has been a driving force in funding this life-changing medical research using cord blood since 2001.
It is their National Project.
Nearly $4 million, raised through various fundraising activities, has funded 64 research grants.
Results associated with these grants include the use of stem cells derived from cord blood to overcome ‘Severe Combined Immunodeficiencies’, the development of immunotherapy to provide safer treatment options for childhood cancers as well as other treatments for cerebral palsy and brain injuries.
It also has potential in regenerative diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions.
Inner Wheel Bairnsdale in the 2024-
25 year contributed, as an A62 district member, to the raising of $23,000 towards ongoing research.
Inner Wheel Australia is dedicated to the continued support of Cord Blood Research for the next 10 years.
On Thursday, September 11, Inner Wheel Bairnsdale is holding a fundraising film night at Sun Cinema Bairnsdale – Downton Abbey 3 – The Grand Finale, including canapes, refreshments and door prize.
