Lakes Entrance Golf Club hosted its annual Ladies’ Bowl event on Monday with 54

players from throughout the region hitting the fairways.

The teams event attracted sides from Newry, Maffra, Sale, South Pines, Metung, Bairnsdale, Toongabbie and Lakes Entrance.

The winners of the Bowl were the local team of Ruth McPhee, Val Gilbert and Lori Murray who finished with 100 points.

Second place went to the Sale team of Joanne Ballinger, Robyn Quirk and Helen Wood, who accumulated 92 points.

Individual winners were Helen Wood (“A” grade), Ruth McPhee (“B” grade) and Lori Murray (“C” grade).

Despite many members chasing the sun in Queensland, field sizes continue to hold up relatively well.

Judith Collins led the field home last Tuesday in the Young and the Rest of Us, winning on countback from Sheila Taylor.

Terry Green claimed “A” grade in Ruthless and Toothless with Greg Bull victorious in “B” grade, and Gary Watson having the best round of the day, a classy 37.

Bull was the master of the greens having just 13 putts.

Wednesday women’s stroke medley was dominated by Val Gilbert with 66 nett, taking out “B” grade and the overall event.

McPhee again to the fore winning “A” grade with 70 nett.

Numbers were down for Thursday’s two-ball ambrose with only 44 players hitting off.

Winners were the long hitting combination of Dave Smythe and Brett Stokes with an amazing 62.

It was stroke day on Saturday. In the ladies’ event Julie Rowe was the winner in “A” grade with 77 nett and McPhee was again among the winners, claiming “B” grade with 80 nett.

Grade winners in the men’s were Smythe (“A” grade), Peter Nicholas (“B” grade) and Bruce Coulton (“C” grade).

Smythe had the best round of the day, a sensational 78.
