Lakes Entrance volleyballer Lachlan Chester is a national champion after the Victorian under 23 team dominated the Australian junior titles in Adelaide.
Chester, who played his junior volleyball in Bairnsdale and at the Gippsland Sports Academy, is now studying in Melbourne and has been an important part of the Victorian side for the past two years.
On the weekend the Victorians travelled to Adelaide and were undefeated in six preliminary matches against the best under 23 players in Australia.
Up against the reigning champions, New South Wales in the grand final, the Victorian side got off to a flying start by winning the first two sets.
They lost the third but fought back to win the fourth set and the national championship.
Chester is currently studying paramedicine at Monash University and playing club volleyball in Melbourne in between representative duties.
During the summer break, he is an active member of Surf Lifesaving Lakes Entrance.
