Visit Victoria partnered with the Australia-wide Channel 7 breakfast show, Sunrise, taking the weather to the road and last Thursday and Friday there were live crosses from Metung Hot Springs and Lakes Entrance.
The broadcast gave a sneak peek of some of the most exciting elements of the East Gippsland Winter Festival, currently running until July 20, which is supported by the Victorian Government’s Regional Events Fund, as well as highlighting the incredible wellness offering at Metung Hot Springs.
Viewers were able to tune in to catch presenter, Sam Mac (pictured), checking out some of the incredible events and experiences that make winter an amazing time to visit regional Victoria.
“We’re proud to back the East Gippsland Winter Festival through the Regional Events Fund, which is a vibrant celebration of
the region’s renowned produce, nature-based experiences, and culture,” Minister for
Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos said.
“This event provides a huge boost for local economies, attracting visitors from all over who not only revel in the festivities but book out restaurants, cafes, and accommodation.”
It was also an opportunity to show the whole of Australia ‘How We Winter’ and just how much there is to see and do around the Gippsland Lakes.
“It’s terrific to be working with Sunrise to showcase all that makes East Gippsland Winter Festival ‘every bit different’ to a national audience,” Visit Victoria chief executive officer Brendan McClements said.
“We know that spa and wellbeing experiences have strong appeal for interstate travellers, and we hope they’ll be inspired to visit Metung’s mineral springs soon.”
Local volunteers were in the background of the Metung Hot Springs weather crosses where the show was live from 5.30am to 8.30am on Thursday. There was an exclusive Sunrise Bathe and Breakfast event at the hot springs, celebrating World Bathing Day, followed by breakfast at the Metung Country Club.
The Lakes Entrance community got behind the show with a dedicated crowd turning up at The Rotunda bright and early on Friday morning to make for a wonderful atmosphere.
There were live crosses from 5.30am to 8.30am which included some brave swimmers
who took the cold plunge into the lake, Zumba dancers, chats with the crowd, live music and warm fires.
