There were mixed results for Lakes Entrance’s junior footballers during their top of the table clash with Wy Yung in round seven of the East Gippsland junior football at Bullumwaal Road last Sunday.
Both clubs headed into the under 15 and 13 games unbeaten, playing for top spot on the table, with the honours shared on the day.
In the under 15 match, the Seagulls led by five points at half time, but had no answer for the run and carry of the Tigers during the second half.
Wy Yung kicked three unanswered goals in the third term to open up a 14-point advantage at three quarter time, before ramming home the advantage in a high-scoring final 20 minutes, kicking five goals to two to run out easy 35-point winners.
Kye Piper and Billy Warfe were lively around the goals in the first half kicking two each, with Lachlan Ymer, Ayden Martin, Shae Klos, Jeremy Rotheram, Tayte Gibbs and Warfe named in the best for the Seagulls.
The story of the day was the performance of the under 13s, who are now the premiership favourites after a five-goal won over the Tigers.
After an even opening the Seagulls held a slender two-point advantage at quarter time, before playing two brilliant defensive quarters, restricting the Tigers to just two behinds.
In that time the Seagulls booted five unanswered majors, opening up a 32-point three quarter time lead with Sunny Eiseman (three goals) and co-captains Patrick McGinty and Jack Hayllar (two each) impressing inside 50.
Wy Yung mounted a spirited challenge in the final term as both sides kicked three goals, Lakes Entrance winners comprehensively by 30 points.
McGinty, Makayla Sowden, Max Friend, John Sowden, Reide Ymer and Jude Campisi were all in great form for the victorious Seagulls.
The EGJFA will have a week off for the King’s Birthday holiday weekend, with the Seagulls enjoying a bye the following weekend. Their next match will be on June 22 when they host Lucknow at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve.
