In all reality, the composition of the East Gippsland Football Netball League final four could well be decided, with the top four places currently occupied by the unbeaten Lucknow and Stratford, who are a game ahead of Boisdale Briagolong and Wy Yung.
Outside the top four by just a game are Orbost Snowy Rovers and Lakes Entrance, with 13 rounds remaining.
As bold a prediction it is to declare the four settled, the composition of the top four sides didn’t change in the final 13 games in 2024, with Lucknow, Boisdale Briagolong, Wy Yung and Stratford all progressing.
On a closer look at this year’s top four, they appear to be clearly better than fifth-placed, Orbost Snowy Rovers, who have already lost to Wy Yung and Stratford.
If they are to be legitimate contender, the Blues need
to regularly knock off top
four sides, which we haven’t seen yet.
In this week’s matches, Lakes Entrance face a tough task at home against Stratford, as do Lindenow, who
host Lucknow.
While the most interesting match is between Wy Yung and Boisdale Briagolong
at Bullumwaal Road.
The Tigers have impressed in victories over Orbost and Lindenow, but weren’t able to get the job done when they played Lucknow, who are held in similar ilk to the Bombers.
Wy Yung is in the mix for sure, and Saturday will give everyone a better gauge on where it fits in the equation.
You would think the Bombers are ideally suited to the expanses of the Wy Yung Oval.
Tigers coach, Brodie Anderson is keen for the challenge.
“We have had some great battles with them over the last couple of seasons and expect a tight contest,” Anderson said.
