The Lakes Entrance Rotary Club held a quiet function this week to celebrate the end of a promotional drive to gain funds in support of projects, both within the local area and beyond.
To help the club in the formalities of finding a winner, Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester joined the group to draw the prize winner.
Darren Chester praised the Lakes Rotary Club for its ongoing support to the community.
“For the last three months the club has been sponsoring a raffle which has raised finances,” President Bernard Abrecht said whilst
summarising the club’s work.
“These much-needed funds will be used to support activities within the region, such as the Lakes Neighbourhood House and the
operation of Centenary House adjacent to the Latrobe Valley Hospital. These are just two
examples of the types of activities we have been
supporting locally.”
In addition, the club provides funding for needs outside East Gippsland, such as help to flood victims in Queensland.
“In recent years we have also been working with our close friends in Timor Leste to provide infrastructure assistance such as lighting and clean water projects.
“All these activities require finances and we are grateful that the community in East Gippsland has supported our efforts by purchasing tickets in our raffle,” Mr Abrecht said.
The major prize was won by Jaclyn from Sarsfield. She was delighted to be the lucky ticket holder, and the club is sure she will be the first to buy a ticket at next year’s raffle.
