Cat bed enterprise

Tucked away in Nungurner is the ‘purfect’ place to think earthy, cosy and restful and that is exactly what Jai Holleley’s all natural cat beds are.

The beds are handmade with Merino wool and blend luxury, sustainability and comfort.

“Living completely surrounded by nature has driven our passion to create a thoughtful, sustainable alternative for pet owners,” Jai said.

“A timeless product that stands the test of time against fast trends that end up in landfill.”

Jai moved from the city a year ago and although working full-time from home, decided she needed a side hustle. With her husband Gui’s support they established Solace Aura and are offering their product on Etsy.

“I have wanted to start my own business, putting out a high quality product that ticks all the boxes,” she said.

With three cats, Jai has the toughest and most reliable critiques of her work and she is passing the test. Jai first felts the wool which binds it together, then hand crochets from mulesing-free Merino wool, designed to provide warmth, security and comfort.

“Merino wool’s soft, breathable fibres create a cosy, self-regulating space that keeps cats comfortable all year round while also being naturally hypoallergenic, odour resistant and easy to maintain,”

Jai said.

The beds come in three sizes and in the future hopes to offer dog beds as well.

“Alongside our focus on sustainability, we donate five percent of profits from each sale to a local wildlife charity,” Jai said.

Gui and Jai are keen to get out into the local community to introduce their product and hope to soon have a stall at markets around the area. If you see The Solace Aura stand be sure to say hello and get to feel how soft and durable their locally made product is.
