Kelli and Dan from Kelli Cakes in Myer Street have an amazing show of knitted and crocheted red poppies in honour of ANZAC Day.
“We wanted to honour all those who have served,” Kelli said.
“My grandfather was a Rat of Tobruk in World War II and my grandmother wrote a book about veterans titled Bendigo’s Own. We have a brother that served in Afghanistan and friends who have served and came up with this idea to honour them.”
Kelli recruited the Lakes Entrance Knitting Group after getting the idea from a place in England that produced 3000 Remembrance Poppies for display.
“We are hoping for 300 and are well on the way,” Kelli said.
Kelli Cakes even found a teapot and cup with red poppies to add to the display in their shop window. It also includes a beautiful poppy patchwork and a copy of her grandmother’s book.
The display is worth a visit and there are always those nice cakes to taste.
