Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association’s (LEADA) new Stadium Working Party met with Stuart McConnell from East Gippsland Shire Council last week to discuss progress on the design of the new stadium in the Lakes Entrance Aquadome precinct.
Mr McConnell, council’s general manager assets and environment, informed the group that council is waiting for the State Government to sign off on the contract for the design.
The $800 000 design phase should be confirmed in the next two to three weeks. After some preliminary documentation is confirmed the architect will be established and the real work will begin.
Representatives from basketball, tennis, croquet, pickleball and table tennis were at the meeting and a number of concerns regarding the master plan were raised. It appears parking and access to sporting venues is a major issue.
The tennis club is concerned about losing courts and pickleball will lose its outside venue.
Chair of Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association Boyd McPhee and the working party group are hoping some of these issues can be resolved in coming months.
“Any community group who thinks they may use the new facility is invited to meetings,” Boyd said.
