It was a busy weekend at the Metung Yacht Club recently with racing of the final heat of the three-race PB Lawrence Memorial Trophy series, heat 10 of the 10-race club championship series and final race in the Etchells race series for this season.
So there was plenty at stake when the boats hit the water last Saturday to tackle course number eight in Bancroft Bay, with the windward mark off Shaving Point as it heads into Lake King.
The leeward mark was before the entry to Chinamans Creek.
There were seven yachts entered, four Etchells in division one and three assorted Keelboats in division two.
After all boats had made the windward mark for the first rounding, the course was shortened, with a new windward mark laid about 200 metres inside Bancroft Bay off Shaving Point.
By the end of the first leeward leg, wind was 180 degrees at eight knots and held steady for the remainder of the race.
First across the finish line was Leading Edge, helmed by Fred Haes and crewed by Tony Doolan and Hugh Howard, followed by Beagle, a division two craft, with Come Monday sailing across into third place.
On handicap times Come Monday, helmed by Stephen Bull, crewed by Stuart Loft and Dean Smith, took out the Lawrence series heat, while Leading Edge picked up the series victory as well as the Etchell scratch race and series.
Come Monday was the winner of the club championship event and the overall series.
