It was a great result for local players Barry Brand and Shane Sproule who were victorious in the Victorian Veteran Golf Association 4BBB Championship held over two days last week at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club.
Brand and Sproule carded rounds of 75 and 74 to win the gross event by eight shots from Newry’s Alf Jessup and Drew Adams with Ballarat’s Greg Gebhart and Graham Roberts a further short back in third spot.
The event attracted a maximum field of 70 pairs, with other good performances turned in by local players Graham Watson and Stan Short (10th), Leigh Przibilla and Mark Jackson (13th), Ashley Chester and Neil Howell (14th).
In the handicap section Gebhart and Roberts were the winners with a score of 130, finishing four shots ahead of Corowa’s Richard and Lawrence Jamieson, who were awarded second on countback from Brand and Sproule.
The rewards kept coming for Brand and Sproule, stroke winners for day one, with another local combination, John Timmerman and Bernie Hoppe, winning the handicap with a net 63.
The Jamiesons were the handicap winners on day two, with Sproule and Brand again prevailing in the stroke event.
day one were Lakes Entrance members Bernie Hope and John Timmerman (absent). (PS)
