The Tambo Valley Golf Club has just hosted another outstanding March tournament, with five days of superb golf in idyllic conditions.
The final day finished with a thrilling play off on the men’s event.
The proceedings kicked off on the Wednesday with the ladies 18 hole 4BBB stableford event, while the gentlemen partook in an afternoon nine hole two person ambrose event.
Jackie Murray and Lyn Dyer prevailed in the ladies event with 46 points, Judy Elliott and Lyn Cooper gnawing away at the heels for most of the round.
Michael Marshall and Chase Rogers (31.2) won a hotly contested ambrose from John Thiele and Sandy Murray (32.5).
Thursday saw the staging of the ladies 37 hole stroke and stableford competition, with Kerry Beggs leading the field home with 132 off the stick, while Sue Gannon won the handicap section with 111.5 net.
Marg Owen won the 27 hole “B” grade stableford, with the teams event taken out by Linda Thomas, Sue Gannon and Jess Patrick.
The men’s nine hole stableford event was won by John Hancock on countback from Walter Bower.
Friday was men’s day with the holding of the 18 hole 4BBB par event, which saw Rob Thomas and Bryan Fox come out victorious with a score of plus 11.
Saturday saw the 18 hole Canadian stableford events, with Glenn Davey and Travis Sykes having an outstanding round to clinch the men’s with 45 points.
The mixed was an all family affair, with Janet Love and son Isaac tearing up the course with an impressive 46 points.
On Sunday the men’s 27 hole stroke event was a fitting finale to five days of sensational golf.
At the end of 27 holes, Mikey Marshall (4) and the young Tyler Elliott (7) were tied on 119.
Tyler was victorious on the first play off, much to the delight of the crowd that had gathered.
Thomas Love took out the 27 hole handicap event, while other scratch winners were Bill Cooper (“B” grade) and Vince Beekman (“C” grade), while in the handicap division, Karl Haussegger won “B” grade and Chase Rogers “C” grade.
The club was thankful of the support of volunteers and members over the five days, which were backed up be outstanding weather.
Planning is already underway for another huge event next year.
