Last week saw the deciding of Lakes Entrance Golf Club star medalists for 2024, the winners of the monthly medals playing off for yearly supremacy, this year’s winners being Renee Percival and promising youngster Connor Guillot.

The men’s event was staged last Saturday and taken out by the talented young sports star, Guillot, who seven days earlier was taken to hospital for observation after a nasty fall at Marvel Stadium while partaking in his number one passion, motor bike riding.

But he was back on course on Saturday, proving too good with an outstanding 66 net.

Another talented local sportsmen, Josh Piper, has taken up golf and was the “C” grade winner with a 63 net on countback.

The unluckiest man on course must have been 28 handicapper, Tim Rhind, who had a 63 net and only went home with a golf ball.

Club president Dave Smythe was the winner of “A” grand with another good score of 70 net.

Classy left hander David Murrell was the winner of “B” grade with another impressive score of 69 net.

The magnificent scoring was an indicator of how good a condition the course is in at present, though in saying that it is always a credit to the ground staff.

The ladies’ master medal was held on Wednesday with perennial club champion Percival taking the event, with Jacinta Wilson taking out “A” grade with a 72 net and Val Gilbert successful in “B” grade with a score of 76 net.

Thursday’s men’s event again attracted a good sized field with “C” grade member Ian Stephens successful in the event, with a great score of 41 points, on countback from the big hitting Stuart Yates, who took out “A” grade with the “B” grade winner being Murray Webb.

Tuesday’s Young and the Rest of Us event was won by Karen Nicholas on countback from Lois Van Der Velden.

Ruthless and Toothless attracted a field of 38 winners with the winners being Leslie Rodgers in “A” grade and Wayne Lunan in “B’ grade.

Saturday’s ladies event saw Percival again the winner, carding a great 72 net, with Julie Rowe runner-up with a tidy 74 net.

Percival was again dominant on the par threes, winning three of the four nearest the pins up for grabs.

Last Wednesday’s “A” grade winner on ladies day at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club was Jacinta Wilson. (PS)
Wednesday’s “B” grade winner was the popular member Val Gilbert. (PS)
Another great round from young Connor Guillot saw him take the 2024 men’s master medal at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club. He is pictured with Gary Jeal. (PS)
