Planning for future bushfires

When it comes to forward planning for future bushfire seasons, one school in East Gippsland is being proactive and last Friday launched a project to develop a Firewise Garden within its school grounds.
Nungurner Primary School students, teachers and parents are excited to be part of a collaboration including Nungurner Landcare Coastcare, Wildseed Nursery Nicholson, Catherine van Wilgenburg/Econet Systems Australia, residents of Nungurner, Metung and Swan Reach, with the pupils showing they are keen to learn.
They have identified where the garden will be established and were happy to show all those interested on Friday at the launch of the project.
All those involved are keen to not just have this as a one off but to expand the knowledge to plant these plants in all areas.
Manager of Firewise Project Victoria, Tim O’Donnell, said at the launch that he was really excited to see the first Firewise project on the ground.
