Seawall piles near completion

Seawall piles near completion

Installation of screw piles for the boardwalk on the Esplanade between the Lakes Entrance Coast Guard building and Bank Jetty for East Gippsland Shire Council were 90 per cent complete late last week.

The screw piles are for the boardwalk as part of the $1.36 million project.

Screw piles have also been installed for the platform and ramp going down to the beach.

The contractor experienced some minor delays in the past week with some boulder rocks unearthed under the sand. As a result, screw piles that couldn’t be installed will be installed when the seawall is excavated and rocks removed.

Final adjustments of the screw piles will be completed at a late stage of the construction.

Meanwhile, the first section of bluestone seawall was removed and sediments contained. The driving of piles for the new seawall started on Thursday, September 13.

The existing 216-metre bluestone seawall is being replaced with precast concrete panels. The bluestone will be stored by council and repurposed in future Lakes Entrance projects.

Local firm AlbCon is completing the project. The Bank Jetty carpark is closed for the duration of the project.
