Emergency investment

A multi-million dollar emergency relief centre will be built at Lakes Tyers Aboriginal Trust.

State Minister for Emergency Services, Jaclyn Symes, joined Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh, last Wednesday at a gathering at the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) Centre at Forestech to announce the $2.4 million investment for the centre.

General manager of the centre, Grattan Mullett, together with community and cultural engagement officer, Alice Pepper, welcomed the ministers and took the chance to showcase the centre’s attributes and visions for the future, including the development of an amphitheatre.

The Lake Tyers Emergency Relief Centre project will bring together GLaWAC, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust and Lake Tyers community to codesign a supportive, safe and secure space for Aboriginal communities within Lake Tyers, during and after a bushfire disaster.
