Gold secures flag

Lakes Entrance Gold defeated Bairnsdale (48-42) to claim the division four East Gippsland Bowls Division (EGBD) Saturday Pennant flag at Lakes Entrance Bowls Club on Saturday.

Unfortunately Lakes Entrance Maroon wasn’t able to stop the inform Paynesville Blue in the battle for the division three title with Paynesville Blue cruising to a comfortable victory 57-31.

Despite speculation play would be called off due to the heat policy, all four divisions got under way on the official starting time.

In division one Bairnsdale defeated Paynesville Gold (87 to 63).

Before start of play both Bairnsdale and Paynesville Gold had won a game apiece against one another but it was Bairnsdale who performed when it mattered most.

In division two, Bairnsdale Blue secured the flag in what was a close contest against Howitt Park, winning 73-64.

It was Bairnsdale Blue’s skill level that went to another level that Howitt Park couldn’t match.

East Gippsland Bowls Division president, John Lewis, said it was a spectacular day of play.

“It was a very good day and the weather was perfect for bowls,” he said.

“The venue was perfect with plenty of seating and shade available for everyone while the catering was excellent.

“We had a lot of good feedback from people and we are very glad with how the day panned out.”

For John, the standout game was the division two contest between Bairnsdale Blue and Howitt Park.

“It wasn’t until the last couple of ends you could tell who was going to win,” he said.

“In division four they had to play an extra end.

“Division three was a bit one-sided"

“Overall the crowd support was excellent as well and the venue was packed all day.

“EGBD were very pleased with how the day panned out and all games were played in good support and everyone got along and had fun.”
