Jake shines at national titles

The School Sport Australia National Track and Field Championships were held at Lakeside Stadium from November 23 to 27.

Grade six St Brendan’s Primary School student, Jake Perrett, competed in his third and final year of Primary School Nationals with great success.

Jake was honoured to be announced as co-captain of the Victorian team and gave the Athletes Oath at the Opening Ceremony.

Jake competed strongly again this year breaking three national T46 records in 100 metre, 200 metre sprints and long jump.

The 100m and 200m records had been standing for 15 years, previously held by Australian Paralympian, Mitchell Gourley.

Jake also anchored the 4x100m relay team to a national silver medal.

Heading into secondary school, Jake is now looking forward to representing Lakes Entrance Secondary College at future school athletics meets.

Jake is a member of Bairnsdale Little Athletics Club and has also joined Wellington Athletics Club and will compete at State Country Championships and State Track and Field Championships and is hoping to gain a position in the state team for Athletics Australia National Championships in April 2019.

Jake competed against primary school students from the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania.

Before competing at nationals, Jake competed at the State Championships where he won a silver medal in the 100m and long jump and a bronze medal in the 200m.

Earlier this year Jake also represented Victoria in the National Cross Country Championships, bringing home a bronze medal from the team event.

Jake thanked St Brendan’s Primary School staff, parents and students, Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance and the long list of business owners and community members, family and friends who have supported him so far.
