Lakes Entrance Croquet Club has claimed the Gippsland Croquet Association Pennant final for the second time.
The club fielded two teams in this year’s competition, with 17 of the 36 members putting their names down to participate.
The selectors were pleased to get such a high participation rate, indicating a strong degree of commitment to the club.
Lakes 1 had a successful season, topping the ladder regularly and ending the season at the top East Gippsland conference, but it was not taking anything for granted when it met West Gippsland division winner, Drouin Croquet Club, in the finale.
The grand final was played at the Morwell Croquet Club with four players in each team participating in 14 games over the day, comprising six doubles and eight singles.
The Lakes Entrance team consisted of Neil Robbins, Julie Drummond (captain), David Barrett and John Mitchell.
The scores reflect some tight games, taking the players to the 13th and final hoop, which was nail biting stuff for the spectators.
This is the second time Lakes Entrance has won the pennant, the first time being the 2010/11 season when Elaine Hancock, Helen Standavich, Max and Nancy Donelly were successful, a great achievement at the time for a fledgling club.
