One of the McGrath Foundation’s most dedicated supporters, Prabodh Malhotra, has embarked on his third journey of more than 1000 kilometres walking from the Melbourne Cricket Ground to the Sydney Cricket Ground arriving on day one of the 2025 NRMA Insurance Pink Test.
He has varied the route each year and this time Prabodh is walking the east coast and recently spent time in Lakes Entrance.
“When I retired, I needed to do something, to give something back and leave the world a better place,” Prabodh explained.
“I witnessed a group of youngsters walk from Newcastle to the MCG, and as I have always enjoyed walking, I joined the McGrath Foundation, and it gave me purpose on my walks.”
McGrath Foundation ambassador and director, Tracy Bevan acknowledged his incredible journey walking from Melbourne to Sydney for the third year running, with hopes of raising $20,000.
“Prabodh’s journey is not only a gesture of solidarity but is also a powerful call to action to support those affected by breast cancer,” Tracy said.
“Generous support from an everyday Australian like Prabodh is always special, but the fact he’s chosen to do something so extraordinary for three years in a row truly incredible.
“Prabodh’s fundraising generosity will help us get closer to our goal of ensuring no one misses out on the care of a breast care nurse and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
At 73 years of age, Prabodh wants to encourage all women to go to Breastscreen Victoria and play it safe with an early diagnosis.
“Men can also get breast cancer, my big message is ‘get checked’. Many of the nurses are former cancer survivors themselves so know what they are doing,” Prabaoh
said.
“If my walk saves a life, it is worth it. I meet so many patients who share their stories along the way.”
Prabodh’s inspirational journey aims to shine a spotlight on the importance of
fundraising for McGrath Breast Care Nurses to assist the foundation in reaching its mission.
“It would be great if you would please consider making a donation to pinkisthecolour.com.au/fundraisers/PrabodhMalhotra,” he said.
He has also published a book A Retiree’s Odyssey in which he shares his extraordinary journey from an immigrant railway yard worker to do a PhD to fundraiser and walker.
