The cost of managing the New Year’s Eve festivities each year is substantial, and Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) is always grateful for financial contributions to support its work.
“One of the biggest costs each year is the terrific fireworks displays our town presents for our community and the many tourists who travel to Lakes to celebrate the new year,” Sharen Cameron, chair of LEADA’s Business, Tourism and Events said.
“Even though the costs are considerable, the township benefits from the business which flows from having so many visitors to our wonderful area.
“The tourists coming each year return home and spread the word that Lakes is a modern, vibrant place to travel for holidays. Word spreads and this translates to an increase in tourism in later years.”
The Rotary Club of Lakes Entrance is aware of the benefits flowing from the NYE events and commits funding each year to support the work by LEADA.
This year Rotary is providing $2000 in funding for the fireworks displays and president Bernard Abrecht met with Sharen Cameron this week to present these funds.
“Rotary has supported the fireworks for some years, and we are delighted to continue, as we know the benefit that Lakes receives from tourism,” Bernard said.
“We encourage others in the Lakes area to consider providing further support to LEADA as it stages fireworks displays which rival the best from any regional community.”
