Mixed results in superleague

There were mixed results for Lakes Entrance in Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague action on the weekend, with Lakes 1 getting back amongst the winners and Lakes 2 going down in a thriller to Metung.

Lakes Entrance 1 moved from fourth to second on the ladder, 70-49 winners over Sale 2.

Winners for Lakes 1 were the consistent Julie Simpson, Mick Burge, Scott Davidson, Daffy Rawlings (26-11) and Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Jim Northe and Joanne Martin (24-11).

Metung finally got home in a close contest, after some agonisingly close losses this season, at the expense of Lakes 2, who just couldn’t hang on at home, going down 58-60 late in the match.

Lakes 2 won two of the three rinks, the loss has dropped the side from second to third.

Victorious for a gallant Lakes 2 were Jeff Wilson, Clement and Lillibeth Hochkins, Boyd McPhee (21-17), and Stephen Smith, Wallace Mason, Barry Roberts and Bill Rowley (19-12).

Mixed results for Lakes Entrance in division two, with both sides being defeated.

Lakes Entrance 3 again dropped down the rankings, now third after not being able to match Paynesville, losing 73-30 on the road.

The only winners being Joseph Hales, Lynton Rathjen, Geoffrey Rawlings and Mark Elliott impressively 31-11, which added some respectability to the final result.

Better result for Lakes 4, sitting in fifth spot after outpointing Howitt Park late to win, 64-51.Max Towan, Roy Roberts, Colin Grassby and Kenneth Melville again winners, this week 28-11, well supported by Ernie Smith, Robert Gersbach, David Ramsay and Ray Ricca, 21-18.

In division three, Lakes Entrance 5 registered its third victory of the season, beating Bairnsdale Golf 45-33.Wim Pennings, Suzanne Light, Jeanette Rowley, Tony Spinks (22-14), and Ian Gray, Angelo Alonso, Meryn Pratt and Gary Lewis (23-19) all winners, the team climbing to fourth on the ladder after a slow start to the season.

Lakes Entrance 6 were defeated by Bruthen, 56-24.

THIS WEEK

Division one: Lakes Entrance 2 v Paynesville; Lindenow v Lakes Entrance 1.Division two: Lakes Entrance 4 v Bairnsdale; Lakes Entrance 3 bye. Division three: Lakes Entrance 6 v Howitt Park; Bairnsdale 4 v Lakes Entrance 5.
