Have you exhibited something in your local agricultural show before?
Everyone is invited to enter an exhibit, whether it’s your cooking, hand crafts, fleece wool, art and craft, photography or something else.
Or you might want to compete in an outdoors event like whip cracking, dog high jump, shearing or horse riding. You still have time to prepare and enter into the Bairnsdale and/or Omeo and district shows, that are being held in November.
To find out what you can have a go at, go to your local show’s web page or Facebook page and look for their schedule. Within the schedule, you’ll find hundreds of classes in the main pavilion and outdoors in the main arenas.
People have been getting involved in local shows for years. Shows play an important role in regional communities, providing a place where we can reconnect with neighbours, build relationships, exchange knowledge and support each other. In tough times, it’s a place to talk and to celebrate our wins.
“We’ve been getting more entries in our show, so it’s growing,” Omeo and District Show secretary Lisa Lee said.
“There’s been great numbers of young families coming to our show since COVID and that’s who we try to cater for. Our show offers our young competitors some great prizes, trophies and ribbons. They just need to give it a go.
“Agricultural Shows are not looking for perfect entries. Judges and stewards will also give feedback which helps us learn how to do things better. Some competitors recently did so well at our local shows, that they ended up competing and winning against others at state judging level.
“So there’s no time to lose. Check out what your local show is offering and get prepared” Lisa said.
