Runners, walkers, families and children are all invited to the 2024 Metung Fun Run, which is being held this Sunday, November 10.
This event is the major fundraiser for Metung Primary School and is supported by the Lions Club of Metung, and powered by the HIIT Factory Bairnsdale.
As per previous years, there are four different events to choose from, which cater to all ages and fitness abilities:
– 1km Kids’ Colour Dash: a fun event for primary school aged children or younger, which starts at – 8.30am outside Metung Bakery
– 10km run: a timed event that starts at 9am outside Metung Pharmacy
– 5km run: a timed event that starts at 9am outside Metung Pharmacy
– 5km walk: a fun event ideal for families, which starts 9.15am outside Metung Bakery.
“With almost 200 participants registered to take part across the four events, the day is set to be a great success,” said Mhairi ‘Vee’ McShane from the HIIT Factory Bairnsdale, who will lead participants in a group warm-up at 8.50am.
“Last year this event was honoured to be named ‘The 2024 Community Event of the Year’ in the East Gippsland Shire Council Awards,” volunteer event organiser Analee Gale said.
“It’s not surprising, given the Metung Fun Run is such a unique event, taking
participants along the scenic waterfronts of Metung.
“It’s a beautiful opportunity to get out and have some fun with friends and family, while also raising much-needed funds for Metung Primary School.
“The kids always love the Colour Dash, while the older children and adults can challenge themselves in the 5km or 10km run; or the 5km walk if a leisurely stroll is more your pace.”
“Profits from the Metung Fun Run are used to assist with the maintenance and running expenses of the 12-seater Metung Community Bus,” Jim Allen, principal of Metung Primary School, said.
“The bus is available for hire by any local community member with a full driver’s license. For more information or to make a booking, phone the Metung Country Club who coordinate the bookings for us.
“A huge thanks goes out for the generous support of our almost 40 sponsors, as well as our event volunteers and community supporters. I must make specific mention of the Metung Hot Springs and Metung Country Club for, again, coming on board as this year’s key sponsors. And, of course, to Mhairi from The HIIT Factory Bairnsdale, for her extensive involvement in the organisation of this event.”
Online registrations for individuals and families close on Friday, November 8, or you can register on the day from 7.30am. For full event details or to buy tickets go to the Metung Fun Run website.
