Things have tightened up in the Gippsland Bowls Region midweek premier division competition after previously unbeaten teams Lakes Entrance and Sale were defeated in round three last week.
The ladder now sees five of the eight teams locked on two wins and a loss, with the competition evenly matched.
Sale sits on top of the ladder with defending champion Lakes Entrance remaining in second spot, despite going down to Stratford, who move up to third 64-56.
Mike McKay, Peter Alves-Veira, Jenny and Kevin Dowie were the only rink winners for Lakes, winning a close contest 22-18.
There were mixed results in division two, Lakes 2 remaining in fourth spot despite going down to Metung by 22 shots, 72-50.
Dawn Irwin, Jacinta Wilson, Peter Howie and Mark Campbell took a rink back 24-18 in a
tough day.
There was better luck for Lakes Entrance 3, who moved to fifth after scoring its first victory for the season by beating Bairnsdale 66-44 in a rink clean sweep.
Angelo Alonso, Christine Piatek, Faye Cannizzaro and David Butterworth led the way with an impressive 26-12 victory, well supported by Max Towan, Treen Norder, Peter Taylor, Geoff Rawlings (20-16) and Jeanette Rowley, Joseph Hales, Lee Burt and Greg Bertram (20-15).
In division three both Lakes Entrance sides did battle with teams from the Bairnsdale Golf Club.
Lakes 4 is second on the ladder after beating Bairnsdale Golf 1, 39-32, with Ian Gray, Rob Wilson, Carol and John Hurren’s effort to win 25-13 the difference between the two teams.
Bairnsdale Golf 2 proved too good for Lakes Entrance 5, easy winners 47-27.
