A huge contingent of Lakes Entrance junior basketballers made the trek down the highway last weekend to participate in the annual Morwell tournament.
The Pelicans were represented by 11 junior teams, in age groups from under 10 through to under 19s, the weekend highlighted by the under 10 boys, under 12 and 14 girls’ teams making it through to Sunday’s grand finals.
The under 12 girls tasting ultimate success, defeating a strong Traralgon side in the grand final 33-17, with Ivy O’Donnell starring with 18 points.
The under 14 girls went down to Traralgon 29-10 in their grand final, while the under 10 boys were
involved in one of the matches of the tournament, unlucky to lose to host Morwell in a thrilling encounter, 15-14. Jesse Downing leading the scoring for the Pelicans with eight.
Other highlights of the weekend, included the under 12 boys, winning three of their four matches, and the under 16 boys, winning two games and drawing another.
Representative basketball is upon us for another season, and the Lakes Entrance Basketball Association are as always, thankful for the support of players, parents, coaches and managers who make the logistical nightmare so much easier.
